Three Weeks Old!!!

Another milestone! Molly is now 3 weeks old. As you can see, she's getting cuter... if that's possible.

Father's day...

Molly took her dad out for coffee early this morning. Well... at least she went along with her dad to Starbucks, just after dawn. Her dad is pretty wonderful, and she loves spending time with him.

Happy Father's Day, everyone!

The absolute delight of a good night's sleep!

Last night, our lovely daughter gave us the gift of two 4-hour stretches of sleep between feedings, with minimal fussing! Both Adam and I were able to cobble together a full 8 hours (although not uninterupted). WOW!!!

So, instead of going through the day in a groggy haze, we've been able to get a lot of work done. We cleaned the house and had the realtor come over to take pictures. The house is officially ON THE MARKET! We could, in theory, have people waltzing through our baby-invaded space as soon as tomorrow.

How will we keep our house clean with a two-and-a-half-week-old baby? What will we do when people come to look at the house (but it is 110 degrees outside)? Will Molly allow us to sleep another night? Stay tuned for more details...

Molly's First Movie

We took this yesterday... this is a test to see how video works. The picture in this video is too dark and blurry (sorry about that!). However, it is her movie debut, so we thought we'd share it.

That face!

Molly is an extremely expressive baby. Her looks include:

  • Frustration

  • Inquisitiveness

  • "Are you nuts?"

  • Tiredness

  • Hunger

  • Enjoyment of hand-chewing

Here's a picture of her "are you nuts?" look... notice the newly acquired double chin!

Long baby

We haven't posted in a couple of days. No reason... just busy with normal newborn baby stuff. Yesterday our friend Dawnetta came for a visit. She commented on how small Molly is... that she looks bigger on the blog. Molly seems big enough... especially when all stretched out. Just took this pic of a very relaxed baby to show you.
Of course, I just woke from a nap... and look like it!

Sleeping is soooooo good

If only she'd do it all the time. Molly does sleep a lot, but she also spends a few hours a day fussing for no discernible reason. Adam has the patience of a GOD and a fairly magic touch for soothing her. I couldn't make it without him. Molly is such an angel when she's asleep... or awake and not fussy (although we don't get quite enough of that!).

First Family Portrait

We took a picture of all three of us today.
What do you think? I think we all look a little tired...

Update on the cat...

Oh yeah, remember how we said we were worried about the cat? He's behaved quite well. He's interested, but generally leaves the baby alone.

6 days old!!!

Well, being six days old is a tough job, but we all have had to do it. Fortunately, Molly doesn't fuss much... just when she's tired, hungry, gassy, frustrated, etc. We seem to have two bad windows of time -- between 9 and 12 (every 12 hours), where she is tired but doesn't want to sleep or do much but fuss. Here she is starting to get soothed by the swing.

My promised pictures

I took a few pictures at the hospital and upon arriving home. More pictures will be taken each day, of course. I'll try to keep up with posting some frequently. This is a montage of my favorite 4 pictures (that you haven't seen earlier) in her first three days of life.

Today Molly is doing great, although breastfeeding is hit and miss now that my milk has come in. She's pretty happy most of the time.

Great skills to date:

  • Making faces
  • Sleeping
  • Crying when frustrated
  • Staring
  • Hiccuping
  • Lifting her head

First Doctor Visit

Since Molly was a little jaundiced the doctor wanted to see us right away. The good news is that Molly is improving and starting to put back on some weight. The pediatrician had reassuring words for our parenting anxiety; we are doing well, our experiences are the norm and things will improve all the time.
We will see the doctor again at two weeks to make sure everything is 100%

You can see from the doctors web page that they are really into trains.
